It's gettin hot in here!

Have you read Fahrenheit 451? Some of you know what I'm talking about. Those of you who saw the movie or play are probably thinking: there's a book?!? Others, maybe not so much. I hadn't heard about the book up until a few weeks ago. It's actually very realistic to today, and it was written 50 or 60 years ago.

TVs now come in 40 to 50 inch plasma screens, and the ones in the book are take over the whole wall! They tear out the wall just so you can put in a TV the same width and height in it's place! would you want something like that? I think I would! And, listen to this: There are between 1 and 100,000 channels on there. Guess what's on? Nothing! "Concerts" that would scare Beethoven so badly, his hearing would come back, just in time for his eardrums to pop and bleed.
Soap Operas that would make Shakespeare and all of the other writers, actors, etc. who have ever set foot on a stage weep and wish they were dead. I like TV, but after reading this book, I studied a favorite show of mine and saw that nothing really changed! In 10, 20, 30 episodes or more, nothing really changed. It was pretty startling.

Let's talk cars. Today we want them big, cool looking, fast, and fuel efficient. What is the highest speed for a car today? 120? 130? when are you actually going to go that fast? Probably never, right? In this book the minimum is about 50 or 60. top speed for these cars? probably 250 or so.

Books, on the other hand. You like them? I do. But in this messed up 21st century, reading books - no, owning books is illegal. Reading them, is traitorous, almost terrorism.

Anyone here a Fireman, or want to be one when they grow up? Today, they stop fires. In this book, they're janiters, cleaning out book "infestations" in houses by burning them. I think firemaniac is a better name for these "helpers". (I mean no offence to Firemen, people who know one, or people who want to be one.)
